Ceramics and Sculpture

I discovered the joy of working with clay while growing up in Tokyo. Japan was where I developed my minimal nature-oriented aesthetic, in a culture that revered spirits in rocks, water, and trees, that has a special connection to children and animals, and that values ceramics as a living form of art, while also expecting precision, good design, and a high attention to detail.  I enjoy making both functional pottery and sculptural work in clay.

My undergraduate studies in the US focused on abstract forms and sculpture in various media. Off and on I explored the human body as well as the expression of spirit in other materials.

I now love to use all kinds of ceramic techniques and other media to make interesting forms and to explore my ideas and inner world.
